Times are tight for biomedical research, with the National Institutes of Health budget for 2013 expected to remain nearly flat for the third year in a row. However, UTMB researchers continue to win the institute grants and maintain the excellence of their programs. “It’s a credit to our investigators — they’ve done such productive and pioneering work,” said UTMB’s Dr. Donald Prough. “It really shows the strength of our programs.” From neuroscience to obstetrics and gynecology, from infectious disease to asthma, medical branch researchers are in the forefront of biomedical progress.
